In the last week of the summer holidays, from August 25 to 30, 2025, the town of Hel will host another edition of the spectacular historical reenactment – D-Day Hel. This event, inspired by the famous Allied landing in Normandy in 1944, has for years attracted history enthusiasts, military fans, and entire families seeking unforgettable experiences and a unique atmosphere.
What Awaits Visitors?
D-Day Hel is not just about battle reenactments – it offers a multi-layered encounter with the past. The organizers have prepared a diverse program that allows visitors to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the 1940s. Every day, you can visit the “Living History Zone” on Kuracyjna Street, admire historic military vehicles, examine thematic dioramas, or watch impressive theatrical performances based on true stories from the war front and behind the lines. This year’s edition promises even more emotions and realistic experiences.
The heart of the event is traditionally the grand battle reenactments on the beach at the Hel Peninsula and in the urban spaces of Hel. The use of authentic military vehicles (including the famous Sherman tank), professional pyrotechnics, lighting, and sound effects from each battle create the impression of a scene from a war movie. More than 400 reenactors, 200 volunteers, and six trucks of military equipment take part in the organization.
Attractions for Everyone
There will also be parades in historical uniforms, fashion and hairstyle contests of the era, musical concerts, and workshops and lectures by experts from the Institute of War Losses. An interesting highlight is the annually anticipated arrival of the Willys Jeep to the Kutter restaurant – the climax of the event. Among other attractions is the opportunity to obtain a commemorative certificate and purchase stylish newspapers issued especially for the occasion.
For children and families, there are lotteries and auctions, the proceeds of which support the Hel Aquarium, managed by the Marine Station of the University of Gdańsk.
Education and Memory
D-Day Hel is not only an entertaining event but also educational. Participants can listen to lectures about Polish soldiers during World War II, the role of paratroopers in Normandy, and interesting facts about war losses. The organizers also emphasize the significant involvement of Poles in historical events such as the operations of the 1st Armored Division under General Maczek and the espionage missions of Roman Czerniawski during Operation Fortitude.

Unique Atmosphere and Values
D-Day Hel stands out among historical events in Poland – it is the only reenactment taking place directly on the beach, combining entertainment, educational, and family dimensions. It is an opportunity to experience a piece of history live, breathe the atmosphere of those times, and see Hel transform for a week into a small Norman town from 1944.
Don’t miss the chance to visit D-Day Hel 2025 and experience this extraordinary lesson of history presented in a modern, engaging form for visitors of all ages.
During D-Day Hel 2025, even though the summer season is officially ending, the town of Hel will be much more crowded than usual. Crowds of tourists, reenactors, and history enthusiasts from all over Poland will arrive at Hel, causing increased traffic and difficulties finding free parking spaces. It is therefore advisable to consider traveling by train – it is a convenient option that helps avoid traffic jams, but it should be expected that trains can be very crowded on these days.
