Gdynia is one of only three Polish cities with a trolleybus network, and its electric “trajtek” traditions date back to World War II. Today, the city’s trolleybus system is not only a practical mode of transport but also a real time machine – especially during the summer season when the unique historic Line 326 is in operation.

Line 326 – The Living History of a Seaside City

Line 326 is a seasonal attraction – it runs every Sunday and public holiday during the summer school holidays from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM at 30-minute intervals. The route is a delight for both public transport enthusiasts and tourists eager for history and a maritime atmosphere. It starts at the Grabówek SKM stop, passes through the city’s main arteries: Morska, Podjazd, 10 Lutego, and the representative street Świętojańska, and ends at the picturesque Orłowo SKM–Klif loop.

Along the way, it also stops at the Orłowo SKM–Orłowska stop, which is an ideal starting point for a short walk to the sea – only a few minutes’ walk from the famous Orłowo pier and the Orłowo cliff, which are landmarks of this part of the city.

Historic Trolleybuses on the Route

Line 326 is served by restored historic trolleybuses: Saurer 4TIILM from 1957, Škoda 9Tr from 1975, ZiU 682B from 1984, and Jelcz 120MTE from 1994. Each vehicle is not only a means of transport but also a unique lesson in the history of urban public transport – they continue to fascinate enthusiasts with their distinctive appearance and retro charm of past decades.

Excursion to Orłowo – Encounter with Legend and Pop Culture

Thanks to Line 326, you can conveniently travel from central Gdynia (for example from the main railway station Gdynia Główna or the Świętojańska stop) to the jewel of seaside walks – the pier in Orłowo. Get off at the Orłowo SKM–Orłowska stop and after a few minutes’ walk, you will reach the pier and the cliffs – one of the most spectacular viewpoints on the Polish coast.

Right by the pier was also the legendary Maxim Club. Founded in 1980, it was one of the most exclusive clubs in the Polish People’s Republic and owned by the charismatic and controversial Michał Antoniszyn, known as “Mecenas”. Maxim was a meeting place for elites, stage stars, and representatives of the underworld. Officially, Antoniszyn got rich importing the first slot machines; unofficially, he was considered the biggest fence in northern Poland.

According to researchers, the club could not have existed without the knowledge and control of intelligence services, which watched over the “legend” of this extraordinary venue. One thing is certain: the Maxim Club was synonymous with luxury – one drink cost as much as a monthly salary, and the club maintained its status as a cult place for entertainment and intrigue for years.

Line 326 – Practicality and Nostalgia

Line 326 operates under the regular ZKM Gdynia tariff system, so everyone can take advantage of this special service. It’s a great way to combine a trip on a historic retro vehicle with a seaside outing and a touch of pop-cultural legend.

Line 326 and the historic trolleybuses in Gdynia offer a unique opportunity to feel the atmosphere of bygone decades and discover fascinating stories from the city’s past… while visiting the famous pier and the site of the once legendary Maxim Club.
